Agricultural runoff

Attention, open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The Tyne Catchment has a mixture of land uses, with the highest quality agricultural land being found in the river floodplains. This means that the Tyne is at risk of pollution from agricultural runoff as the arable farming of this land leads to the introduction of pesticides and fertilizers into the water. It also means that sediment influxes arising from agricultural land use can be another significant source of pollution. See the Sedimentation section for more details.

The Trust wishes to work closely with farmers and landowners to identify and address agricultural sources of pollution. We are carrying out an ambitious catchment wide programme of practical work to tackle some of these issues.
