The Tyne Catchment is central to the regions mining heritage, with water from a number of disused workings emptying into rivers and tributaries of the Tyne. The Coal Authority and Northumbrian Water manage a number of schemes to treat the water running in to the Tyne. Follow the map link to see details of these schemes.
