Latest release information
Please download the 'Kielder Release Programme 2011' document from the Documents Box (to the right) for this year's planned releases and programme explanation. Please note this is a provisional document and the programme is subject to change by EA and NWL without prior warning.
Tyne Rivers Trust agreed to provide the Kielder release information (see links below) on our website to aid river users to pick their timings for an enjoyable day out. This agreement was made more than 3 years ago on the understanding that it was a brief stop gap solution whilst awaiting the direct-feed website from RWE, the operators of the Hydro-electric Power scheme at Kielder. We are still awaiting this direct-feed... and can only do our best to provide useful timely information in the meantime.
Kielder Operating Agreement
Kielder is the largest man-made reservoir in Northern Europe, holding just under 200 billion litres of water. The Kielder Operating Agreement describes the requirements, procedures and guidelines for the management of the Kielder Water Scheme. This agreement is a technical document designed for operational staff at Northumbria Water and the Environment Agency, it forms the technical appendix for the Section 20 agreement which is the legal document controlling the operation of the system. As such it is not available to the public. However a guide to the updated Kielder operating agreement - Managing Water Resources is available as a 4MB pdf. Download 'Managing Water Resources'.
