Dam Tyne!
14 May 2010
We have had many enquiries about the workers, diggers and dumpy bags in the River Tyne at Hexham. A sewer pipe which crosses the river downstream of Hexham bridge has fractured and emergency work is being carried out to repair it. Coffer dams have now been constructed to divert river flow and work has begun on repairing the pipe. TRT staff and board members have been very active in reporting the fracture and then making daily visits to advise and to keep informed of progress. As we know, river conditions can change and the operation requires delicate engineering so TRT will continue to keep a watchful eye on the work.
